Is this sustainable though? I have to imaging that if a requester sees horrible work they are denying the HIT. This would drive their approval rating down and make them unable to do other HIT's. I've never really spoken with many requesters so this might not be the case. But once your rating is down you can't just go get another account. Maybe I under estimate the amount of auto-approvals.
There are always HITs that don't require an approval percentage that you can use to get your numbers back up. But for people that don't give a shit, they'll often just harass the requesters that reject them until they get their rejections overturned. I've seen some pretty disturbing shit happen over rejections, and I'm not even a requester. I've seen people go straight to doxxing and harassing requesters in real life just because they're not getting their way. There are some pretty unsavory people in this community.

I think a lot of people don't realize the sheer size of the workforce too. The people you see logging into this forum represent a very small fraction of the workforce. Obviously I don't have any hard numbers... but I'd be willing to wager if you added up all the unique workers across all worker forums it would be less than 5% of the total worker population.
Yes, this. And that's why you really can't regulate it. It's just a damn shame that some of us are actually doing thoughtful work, but we just get mixed in with all the other careless folks.

I know that happens but you also have the issue of some of us really need this money, like I use it to pay my utility bills and the more work leaves the most desperate people get and aren't willing to accept rejections.

Thats surely true. But i bet the majority of them aren't as tuned in as the people on this forum. How many times have we/you/someone been working on a new batch that very few people seem to be working on, but then someone posts the hit here and suddenly the thing disappears :) But for regular well known batches where people l;earn the tricks and the scripts i am sure the majority of work turned in is crap.

But if you need this "job" to provide your income then you should do it correctly.

If you work any other job and you do a shit job you get canned. I think a rejection or two is better than that.

Unfortunately, I think "working harder" is probably the last thing on the mind of many people who choose to work from home.
I agree ^_^

It's my opinion that mturk > any retail job, food job, etc. Considering I spent most of my working time (up until I found mturk, that is) in the service industry... I'd nearly do anything to get away from that. And honestly, I don't think mturk is as difficult or as stressful as customer service. I guess that is what I mean by "working harder" lol. Because you have to sit at your computer and find the work yourself, as opposed to simply driving to the designated work location and spending X hours to get a paycheck.
