I can't argue with that. When I was working on the Research Task Hits a couple of days ago I learned exactly how unconcerned some other workers are about the guidelines for the hits. I'm not sure that justifies substandard pay from requesters. It just seems that it's a really shit storm system. The fee hike was a bit more complex than that. Before July of last year, all non-masters HITs had a fee of 10% of whatever that HIT paid. Masters HITs had a fee of 30%. That 300% increase only applied to HITs that had 10 or more of the same HIT in a group (typically surveys). Everything else non-masters was increased from 10% to 20%. Masters fees were dropped from 30% to 25%. The reality of the whole fee hike situation wasn't as bad as many made it out to be.
If we're going to discuss why good requesters seem to be dwindling on mturk, why don't we also take a look at ourselves? Anyone that has ever done a HIT that had you grade another worker's submissions can tell you that most of the results that no or low qual requesters are getting are absolutely garbage. Then you add to that, the hostility that requesters often face when they attempt to reject said garbage. Mturk is not an easy place to get quality results unless you've been here for a long time and really know how to work with quals and stuff.

I agree, I've seen total gibberish submitted. It's astonishing.Anyone that has ever done a HIT that had you grade another worker's submissions can tell you that most of the results that no or low qual requesters are getting are absolutely garbage.
Unfortunately, my time consulting with requesters showed exactly that. The number of people who put absolutely no effort into the work, or straight up scammed was disproportionately high compared to the people who actually appeared to be making an effort to complete the work correctly. Trying to reject even the worst cases of scamming led to massive dumps of emails (from significantly more people than actually got rejected... some interesting conclusions can be drawn from that) which were absolutely full of the worst kind of shit you can say to someone... just straight up ridiculousness like "i hope you have small children who get cancer so you can watch them die painfully" type of stuff. The fee hike was a bit more complex than that. Before July of last year, all non-masters HITs had a fee of 10% of whatever that HIT paid. Masters HITs had a fee of 30%. lol i threw back b bblemme get one
Unfortunately, I think "working harder" is probably the last thing on the mind of many people who choose to work from home. After all, I can work from home with it. Isn't that a lifestyle people should at least be willing to work a bit harder for?
I agree.....but the fault is not quite ourselves (I think). I still feel like it's the fault of the stars - well, requesters and ultimately amazon. It's their (amazon's) job to tell them how to get good work (qual things). The fee hike was a bit more complex than that. Before July of last year, all non-masters HITs had a fee of 10% of whatever that HIT paid. Masters HITs had a fee of 30%. That's a bit misleading plenty of people who work from home work hard. I think if turk had better pay and a better way of weeding out scam workers then the workforce would be better.Unfortunately, I think "working harder" is probably the last thing on the mind of many people who choose to work from home.
