My mom loves Stephen King but a lot of his books I just can't get into. I recently tried reading The Stand on her recommendation but I had to return it halfway through. It was just too disgusting for me, and I'm not THAT easily disgusted. I mean, I watch Investigation Discovery and listen to true crime podcasts all the time ... but I just couldn't take it.

The Stand is a pretty heavy book as an entry to Stephen King, the length and depth alone. I'd suggest something easier and newer of his first to kinda get a feel. Or, just look up adaptations and take the easy way out. His made for TV miniseries' and movies have always been a really good representation of his books as he always has his hand in them. The Stand was one of those adaptations back in the day with a young Rob Lowe, I always get sucked in when it's on Sci Fi channel.
