I love you all, I really do, but this stuff is painful to read. I grew up in a family of mechanics, and my uncle owned a car dealership. I remember being up under a car with my grandpa even before he took me to learn how to shoot a handgun. Some years ago I actually changed the brake pads on my own car, but I had grampa's tools then, so I probably couldn't do that today. You can be a girl and still use a tool. You just have to scrub your hands real good afterwards.

my parents were very old school (and I'm old, btw). There were girls my age - sometimes - doing some of this, but it was pretty unusual where I was raised. I agree with you, t hough, everyone needs to know the basics. I fear that some of is being lost (I was at work, once, talking about changing my tire and the young women were like...change a tire? I don't know how. I'd just call for help!

I'm horribly at adulting.

It means writing a check when you know you don't have enough in the account but you are about to deposit money before the check you wrote will clear. I used to occasionally do this with utility bills.

I'm really surprised at the amount of places that still take checks. Floating a check will soon be a lost art form.

Utility bills are the only thing here I can do that with now. Even my landlord has a machine to convert a check to EFT. Grrr.
