It's almost that time! Let's talk holidays :) What are you doing for Christmas (if you celebrate it) by way of presents? I'm at war with myself over "no more crap in my house" and "I love watching my son get excited opening things". He'll get to open all the new baby's gifts (books!) this year, so that will add more fun for him I think :)

I've been buying books the past month or so -- just got this one in the mail and OMG. As a fantasy enthusiast - it's so cute; https://www.amazon.com/Nobody-Likes...8438136&sr=8-1&keywords=nobody+likes+a+goblin

I'm also getting him a little whiteboard/feltboard two sided easel since he loves "stickers", and some montessori type activities like pegboards, lacing beads, etc.

Since yours are close in age, if you haven't put away your sons more 'baby-ish' toys, you could have him wrap some of them to gift to the baby. Even though she couldn't play with them you could put them away with maybe a bit more ease since it's kind of a game this way.

There this phrase I see tossed around on Facebook a lot during Christmas time, 'something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read' It's a lot easier to work with for bigger kids. Last year we did pretty good with this for my son, plus a few extras and stocking stuffer stuff, but I think it's a great goal especially when as they get older the 'wants' get more expensive >.<

I really like that idea. Mine just had her birthday so I haven't really even considered Christmas yet.

That's a really good idea to wrap up some of his baby things :) Right now we have them in the 'overflow area' in the basement and he doesn't play with them at all really - I think he would really enjoy that!

I also forgot about want/need/wear/read - that's a great thing to keep in mind :) He's still little enough that he doesn't want much, which is nice - he's just starting to ask me "have that?" when we go to the store and he sees things that interest him.

We are ordering some books the kids picked out through their school's scholastic handout, and wrapping them up for Christmas. They don't need more toys and are becoming very interested in reading, so it's a good fit. Plus books don't take up much space, and they got to pick them out themselves without even knowing it.

As for Santa, I helped him out and gave the kids 3 toy catalogs (Toys R Us, WalMart, Target) and told them to pick out their favorite things and we can make a list to add in the letter. I let them know that they won't get everything, but it's nice to give Santa some options to choose from.
