Fun fact, artificial banana flavoring is based on the taste of a type of banana (Gros Michel) that was popular up until it was almost wiped out by fungus, and was replaced by the Cavendish which we have today, which is less sweet and strongly flavored. That's why artificial banana flavor tastes almost nothing like bananas.

Fun, but not true. The artificial flavor is based on isoamyl acetate, which smells very banana but tastes kind of banana. Gros Michel is actually a *third* flavor. IIRC someone actually got hold of one of the Michels and did a taste test, but I can;t find it quickly.

I actually like fake banana, but I'm in the minority.
