nobody hiring people to make websites anymore I can go get myself a codemonkey and "graphic" artist to collab together on fiverr.com and get about 10 diffrent proposals and just pick one, want to know why? because they didn't go to college and that is now how they have to compete now. If that is the lifestyle you are after you are 100% correct in everything you have said so far.I can guarantee you that if you don't have a degree, yet you have a portfolio of websites that are better than the websites the large firms make, yes, you'll get the job over someone with a degree. Now, you WILL have to work HARD as hell to get to that level (harder than those that have the degree), but they will choose you.

The ultimate attention check. We had a very sophisticated method of filtering out job applicants at my last job.
We had a space on the form that said "If you are under 18, how old are you?"
If anyone wrote a number bigger than 18 in that space, it went in the trash.
I am not grouchy therefore no one else isWhy is everybody so grouchy today ._.
Till they hire him and he can't compete. He has the money but his day has come and gone. He gives his money to charity now. Perhaps he could head up that or probably does.and once the hr person's boss finds out that they missed out on bill gates, that person will be fired.
Yes, I can see that you have made that assertion.we're talking web developement. In that field, they go with who has the best portfolio of websites built.
I will admit that most people that have degrees in programming or web devolopement will be smarter and better than MOST people that learned it on their own. I'm just saying if you learn it on your own AND you happen to do it better than those with a degree and can PROVE IT with a portfolio of websites or apps you developed, you'll get the job over someone that just has the education. For every Bill gates their are 100s of thousands of people who started a business and failed. If I have a degree and the qualifications necessary for a job opening, I am not worried that I will be competing with a Bill Gates. I am not even overly worried about the guy without a degree with similar skills to mine.
I loved doing the first round of interviews for a well known, nation wide, smoothie shack. We had a very sophisticated method of filtering out job applicants at my last job.

I'm actually pretty grouchy, but it's because I slept on a toy fire truck last night.I am not grouchy therefore no one else is
I'm not sure of that. I had a talk with a friend that works in HR. She mentioned something along the lines of, "We can't legally look at your resume unless you meet the requirements and if the requirements state a degree, it doesn't matter if you have experience." It's either that or they can't look at it unless they look at the rest. Like a queue system. It doesn't bother me. I like doing what I do now because I can set my prices and be my own boss. A firm will help find steady work but they'll take a bigger cut. The "official web developer" title doesn't bother me and I like being my own boss for now. If I do decide to get a degree, I'll likely be at a point where it's just a formality.I can guarantee you that if you don't have a degree, yet you have a portfolio of websites that are better than the websites the large firms make, yes, you'll get the job over someone with a degree. Now, you WILL have to work HARD as hell to get to that level (harder than those that have the degree), but they will choose you.
Words of wisdom over hereI am not grouchy therefore no one else is
...most companies would love to hire Bill Gates.Till they hire him and he can't compete. He has the money but his day has come and gone. He gives his money to charity now. Perhaps he could head up that or probably does.
all I'm saying is life isn't black and white i.e. go to college ,get a degree, graduate and you are ahead of everyone without a degreenobody hiring people to make websites anymore I can go get myself a codemonkey and "graphic" artist to collab together on fiverr.com and get about 10 diffrent proposals and just pick one, want to know why? because they didn't go to college and that is now how they have to compete now. God now I can't stop thinking about peaches.

something tells me bill gates would do fineTill they hire him and he can't compete. He has the money but his day has come and gone. He gives his money to charity now. Perhaps he could head up that or probably does.
