So then come up with a compromise. He doesn't care for commercialized holidays... you wish you had a holiday to celebrate... his feelings about the holiday are no less valid than your own. Why not make your own personal holiday? Call it whatever you want... put it in whatever month you want... enjoy not seeing a single advertisement about it... and it can have whatever traditions, connotations, etc that are meaningful to the two of you.I'm always late to the conversation, but it would be nice if my husband bought me flowers for Valentine's Day for once (or anniversary or birthday or anything). We've been together for almost 9 years and the only time we ever did anything was when I took him out to dinner once. He always complains about how it's a made up commercial holiday. Well, aren't all holidays nowadays? Oh well, he never gets me anything and I never feel obligated to put out.
