@YungskellHonestly if you get a cheap laptop and throw Lubuntu or Xubuntu on it, it'll run pretty quick. I've used Linux for years as I just don't game, and don't really care on missing out on small things. The performance difference is insane, and the learning curve for either of them is negligible.
this is my experience, they are faster/smoother than they used to be. I wouldn't use it as my main device personally, mostly because of the few things it can't do: (ahk, though it can on wine on some types), inquisit (bleh) and a couple of audio-video related issues with a couple hits it checked my os and wouldn't let me continue, but overall, decent for travelling/portability for the cost. (I may have said this the other day.)
