Oh my god, Earthlink! They were my first ISP after I got off AOL (um, cause almost everyone actually did use AOL back in the day...) and I thought I was SO COOL. (Though their tantrum over your direct line sounds kinda less cool.)

They didn't have a tantrum, just when I needed something fixed they were so amazed that I had my own designated line for broadband. I think earthlink was my first dial up too. and when they announced broadband i signed up and they sent out the stuff because my husband could set it up himself.
