How old is the United States of America?
It depends on when you think the United States of America was “born”.
Declaration of Independence? America will be 241 this July 4th.
Signing of the Treaty of Paris (which signified the end of the Revolutionary War)? The USA will be 234 on September 3rd of this year.
Ratification of the constitution? It was officially ratified after 3 years with Rhode Island’s vote. If that's the date you believe the United States was “born”, we will be 227 years old on May 29th.
Or maybe you think the United States was born when all government branches were set up with the inauguration of George Washington as president. In that case, the country will be 228 years old on April 30th.
These would be the most logical “birth dates” of the United States. But if you believe The United States ended with the secession of the southern states and the creation of the Confederate States of America, you may see it differently.
In that case, America was “born” again when the last shots of the war were fired. Believing that, we will be 152 years old on June 22nd.
How old is the United States of America? The creation and maintenance of a country is a complicated thing. The “birth” date of a nation all depends on your perspective.
