Yeahhh. I consider myself still learning, so it's not too bad... plus I've watched almost all of Orange Is The New Black season 3 today so that's nice! Glass half full.

I do love seeing people with huge PE's, even though it makes me jelly, it's cool to see how things could turn out.
I love logging on Sundays if I get a change. Like to see some of the amazing weekly reports.

If you've found this forum, then you are probably more informed about the tips and tricks of mturk than at least 75% of the overall users (of course I'm just assuming that number). Just because you don't identify with the article doesn't mean its not an accurate representation of the majority of users.
You think? You think most people are dumb enough to continue using a platform to make money without taking a cursory look into making it at least a little more efficient? I Turked for about a month w/o scripts. It was a pain in the butt and I definitely didn't make as much as I do now but I was certainly smart enough not to work penny HITs at a rate that earned me $2/hour. The main gist of the article is that MTurk exploitive and I simply don't see it that way. It's no more exploitive than any other employer. Before I worked here I was doing work at Wonder research. Now there's some exploitive people. 8 bucks for 3 hours of intensive work that is more easily rejected that the HITs that we do here.

For reference, if anyone wants to read it...

The Internet Is Enabling a New Kind of Poorly Paid Hell

IMO, it did an OK job explaining the issues around click work on a platform like mturk. Someone with masters or (multiple) valuable quals doesn't have the same experience, but most mturk workers don't have either of those.

One sentence tl;dr: "Even with all those hours, she told me, she’s struggling to make $30 a day."

For me, I get between $20-$50 a day. Most of that seemed to come after 5000 hits, plus by that time I understood more what I wanted and needed to do.
These past two weeks have been getting better and better. More work is coming in and its mostly higher paying surveys.

I have been able to hit 40-50 bucks each day

Learn how to use MTS or panda crazy. I use MTS. Search for HITs on HIT finder. Put the ones you want to catch in HIT catcher and sometimes you'll get them. I focus on $1 or more surveys that take 15 minutes or less. I get a couple of $5+ HITs a day and it ends up rounding out to an average day of about $45. I generally do nothing but surveys and user test because they pay the most with the least amount of time. Very few batch HITs seem to be worth the time and they disappear with the snap of a finger. I find MTS easier to use than panda crazy.

I think you need a certain level of computer literacy to use the scripts and programs constantly mentioned on here, and I don't think most people have that.

And I definitely agree that mturk is exploitive, I'm just fine being exploited. I feel pretty exploited today, even. Mostly because there's very little regulation of the site and almost 0 responsiveness from Amazon about it. That wouldn't be the same with other normal employers.

I've been having trouble forcing myself to do surveys under $1 if no bonus chance anymore. I also used to try to do more batches, and I know I can earn more, if just a little bit, by going back to it. Plus, I can't possibly earn Masters if I don't get my numbers up and diversify, but the allure of a survey is just too much. :frustrated:

Unfortunately this is probably the way things will remain. Jeff Bezos will shut down mturk before he agrees that standards have to be raised.

Your right, there are definetely down sides. I spent 3 full hours on that eye gazing HIT last night and ended up having to return it. But I have to take the good with the bad. I set my own hours. I don't commute. I don't have a boss. I get paid every day mon-fri. Those things are more important to me than anything. This type of work is very motivation driven, but there's obviously a big helping of luck with it too. Overall, I'll take this over anything I can get hired for around here. My quality of life has improved dramatically since I started Turking.

Okay thanks! I use Turkmaster. Sounds like you qualify for more surveys and user tests. I have 3800 approved. Which it was easier find and get qualifications.

There are enough people here (mturk in general) who have really really low standards that the ones with medium to high standards don't really matter.

I used Turkmaster for a little bit and really didn't like it. Sorry, I was under the impression that you were a new user. Go with what works but I didn't like the way TM popped up notifications for HITs and, IDK, it just didn't work for me. I use MTS and I dropped $3 on task archive to give me some stats on my main page that I couldn't find any script to do.

I suppose your right about the computer literacy part as well. But it's not like we're writing the scripts ourselves. It's basically installing browser extensions and learning how to use them. There is a learning curve, I definitely found that out. I'm still learning something new everyday, mostly from this forum.
