I'm still fairly new to all of this and am trying to figure out when is the best time to come on? I normally am on either after lunch (son goes down for a nap) or later at night when he goes down for bed. For whatever reason I am having a hard time finding good paying HITs. Any one have any tips?

it can vary day-to-day and person to person, but in my experience, earlier in the day tends to be more active than later in general

It just depends. This is traditionally a slow time of the year so not much going on unless you have some closed qualifications. Usually more work happens earlier in the day 9-5 but there are more people working during that time. Also lots of seasonal workers grabbing surveys and the like to make the holiday cash right now. Keep an eye out for qual HITs and if you need some basic tips with scripts and such check out mturkguide.com/index.html if you haven't already.

It definitely varies for me. I "usually" make more money during the day, but for the past week or so I've been making more late at night. It also depends on if you're working on surveys or batches and what you qualify for.

Welcome! It definitely takes some practice getting the hang of finding good HITs. It varies day to day but I find most of the best ones in the morning to mid afternoon, then sometimes in the early evening. Most requesters post during business hours, but it depends on their locality.

I'd read the guides here on getting started. It should have information about all the scripts that are useful for finding and catching HITs.

Then it's good to keep an eye on turkerview.com. There's a section on there that tracks qualifications, and you can search information about various requesters and their HITs. If you spend time on the forums here and there you will see a lot of people posting about good HITs and requesters, and then you can go put those into your scripts and extensions, etc... to look for related HITs and help you pick them up.

No idea. The mornings are good in one way (less competition for HITs), but it varies a lot throughout the day. I'm having a hard time catching good paying HITs since the morning, so it's not just you.

PSA: If you are doing these, then read the instructions carefully!

A couple insights into the requester's logic doing the updated HIT:

1.) Terms like "Thighs, wings, breasts etc" seem to solely refer to body parts, not delicious meats.

2.) Restaurant names refer to the physical building, NOT the food served in inside. "Wendy's" is a restaurant, not a food, even if you "get Wendy's for dinner".

3.) Descriptive adjectives for food are NOT food. Melting, Overcooked, steamed, etc are not foods.

I can not remember the exact day of the last update. I feel like it was between sunday and tuesday. I don't see anywhere that has some sort of change log to confirm that (also nothing under support). Let me know if you can think of somewhere I could look to narrow down that information.

I don't really see any changes except maybe the account menu hover looks different, graphic wise. But they had updated it about 3 days before this last update that caused problems so the menu appearance could have happened then or anytime really - I can not confirm it was the most recent update. But other than that everything looks the same.

The last time before this week they had an update was back on thanksgiving, and that was just to have a thanksgiving logo for festive aesthetics for the day. I remember this because I thought when I clicked the 'refresh for update' popup it would be something in the same vein. But this time the changes weren't so apparent.


@coffeeowl the 'refresh for update' is a little button that popups on the right hand side of the top menu bar on the main page every once in a while. Mine looks like yours does now. If you aren't seeing it, you probably restarted your computer or something and it refreshed automatically. I have a bad habit of leaving mine on.


EDIT: *also, upping the interval time to 1000 has proportionately increased the amount of time before it kicks me out.

2. Open chrome://extensions/
3. In the top right of chrome://extensions/, enable Developer Mode

4. Click on background page

5. Go to the "Console" tab

6. Take a screen shot (expand if it can be) of anything red (something should show up when the logout error happens)

I don't know if this helps you, but I've notice that when I refresh on the website now it gets redirected to a /OATH/callback page before it goes back to the studies page. It didn't used to do that.
