When I worked at big lots they did that shit too. The manager was like "they make me do this, sorry." I want to say they can't do that anymore (like the hours requred for insurance are lower?) but there's a fair chance I'd be making that up because I don't remember where I heard it.yeah it's like "you couldn't give me ONE more hour this week?!". it's not like a company as big as Walmart couldn't afford to give everyone insurance back then. i do believe they've tweaked the guidelines since (not 100% sure), but it's like come on. a lot of places pull stuff like though. you're right
at my winn dixie, the managers jobs are the least safe, because they are constantly getting rid of 1 full time postion to lay off a manager, and giving all of his work to the manager they didn't lay off.In theory the more skilled the job the more expensive it will be to replace someone. You would still be expendable but the company would have to think twice before rationally pulling the trigger. If you work at some minimum wage service job though they actually want you to quit/be replaced before they have to start giving you that yearly raise or whatever because there is minimal training required and pretty much anyone can fill your shoes.
THANKS, OBAMA!
I can agree with that Technically all of my experience has been at low wage, customer service jobs, so that's where I'm coming from lol. Although I've also worked for a company that laid off over 120 people when I started the job and many of them had benefits and had been there for like a decade. While they might have to think twice about it, they can still replace anyone, and that's what makes me sad. You can be the most loyal person to a company but it doesn't mean they will return the favor and be loyal to you.In theory the more skilled the job the more expensive it will be to replace someone. Yes, that is definitely true, toowell of course, but I think it's pretty safe to say that walmart (or whatever) is slightly more reliable than requesters on mturk, lol.
We're all just here to do things until they can find someone, or something, cheaper to do the work. We're meaningless, and that won't ever change.I can agree with that Technically all of my experience has been at low wage, customer service jobs, so that's where I'm coming from lol. We should start a requester hall of fame for awesome correspondence. I emailed one last November 'ish, and the reponse that I got was along the lines of "That just ain't right, why they gotta be like that? Here, go get baby some shoes". it was really funny to me at that time.Greetings from Amazon Mechanical Turk,

Thanks for being a Worker on Mechanical Turk!
why would i click on this based on your post? lol@PeachyRider butt at 0:36
Yup. Moving up the ladder in a place like that can be one step closer to the door. I've refused mngmt promotions for that reason. I find that retail does that, mostly. They feel that they can save money, on someone that is barely more that their regular associates, while also setting the example that "nobody is safe so, you'd better look busy." There are some really screwed up practices in the the capitalist world. Not that every economic position doesn't have it's inherent flaws. But, raw capitalism, I feel, has more arbitrary "rules". When everyone can be the boss, they tend to make some strange rules.at my winn dixie, the managers jobs are the least safe, because they are constantly getting rid of 1 full time postion to lay off a manager, and giving all of his work to the manager they didn't lay off.
why pay two people 50 grand a year to do two jobs when you can pay one person 50 grand a year to do 2 jobs.
I bet you've got to do a 20min study before it starts, or something. Hurry!
caught the UNU!!!
how is the dollar store or fast food any different than walmart? its like comparing which pile of shit smells worse. However I'd rather scrape up money turking on shitty surveys than work at the dollar store or fast food >.>
Last day of mturk for the week finally here!
