Heck my old doc had me on so much stuff years ago all because I said I was drowning in life...HELLO kids, work and life. That was it, not talking, no checking for anything just hear take some meds and shush up. This was probably 15 years ago when they handed them out like candy.
Back when female hysteria was still a relevant and acceptable diagnosis? There was usually very little in the way of consultation on that... just prozac and gtfo.

Exactly what happened. I hated it and stopped taking it after a few months.

Things have changed. You can still get them pretty quickly for life-changing situation. Birth, death, loss of job, car, wife, house, homework, etc. You can still get them. But, for some it's harder than others. It took me 15 years because I didn't allow myself to present as symptomatic. Then when I did, I was drug seeking. YMMV

Ha, it still kind of is. I went through a lot of doctors before I could get one to even agree to do biopsies and run tests for my multiple autoimmune issues. Since I have bipolar and anxiety issues, along with being a woman, they dismissed every symptom I had as being getting myself worked up. I have permanent damage due to the diagnosis delay.

I am super anti medication, I think only because I had meds shoved in my face for years. Hope you got the help you needed, if not you can always go see my old doctor. I am sure he is still passing them out.

They didn't even take the term "hysterical nuerosis" out of the dsm until 1980. medicine still has a way to go. hysteria btw comes from the word hystera which means uterus... the term was coined by Hippocrates himself... who was absolutely certain the condition was caused by wandering wombs...

I was told I couldn't breathe because I was having a panic attack and was a drug addict and this was in addition to me being bulemic. I've never done drugs and it runs in my family to be thin and had thrown up twice in like 15 years from the flu/food poisoning. went to a different dr. who immediately did an xray and found I couldn't breathe due to obviously broken ribs. a lot of medical people appear to get their "knowledge" from the latest in pop culture.

tldr I was given psychiatric medication for broken ribs.

edit: the "drug addict" part was because I could barely speak and kept asking for pain medication. :/

Just a heads-up for the anxiety HIT, the TO isn't pretty. Looks like mass rejections from the requester.

Wandering Wombs would be a pretty good name for an all-girl punk band.

Hah... my mom said the same thing like 10 years ago. I was quite shocked she even knew what punk was.

That's insane, I'm so sorry. One of my doctors used to say she didn't want to run tests on me because the findings would make me anxious.
